The military story gives the scammer an excuse for almost everything.

Often the fake officer is conveniently widowed, divorced, lonely or approaching retirement. Then comes the story about wanting someone trustworthy to share the rest of their life with.

💰 EVENTUALLY, THE STORY LEADS TO MONEY

Leave fees.

Travel expenses.

Packages.

Customs charges.

Emergency bills.

Access to frozen money or accounts.

Fees supposedly required by the military.

Different stories—same objective.

The photographs and name may belong to a genuine, honorable service member who has absolutely nothing to do with the messages being sent.

Finding the person’s real military biography online DOES NOT prove you’re talking to them.
